Transgender Series
I created the models for this series in Rhino 6 and printed them on a Lulzbot. I then used the 3D prints to create the molds for use in the lost wax bronze casting proccess. This series is a representation of a small part of my experience of being Transgender, specifically Transexual. Each sculpture is a display of the genders and mix of genders that I have portrayed throughout my life as indicated by the gender symbol displayed on the individual artifacts. Each word set into the pieces is one I have been called in earnest while portraying that gender.
On the forearms, 3D pieces, I have layed the words into a cuts. The concept behind putting the words into the cuts is how the terms and words we use to put people down affect those people. It is a representation of how those insults make the recipients feel like they are actually what they are being called the more they hear the terms. In other words, after repeated exposure to those insults what would you see on the inside of these people if you were to cut them open and look inside. The cuts are also depictive of the high suicide rate of transgendered people due to the nonacceptance of this group by the "normal" American person.
